It is easy to think that in a world of billions of people, one person cannot make a difference. I spent years of my life thinking "someone else with more power will take care of that", or "it's hopeless, things will never change". If no one ever stood up for the greater good the world would  be much worse off, if not for the lack of the clothing on our backs, then the lack of love in our hearts. It is each and every act of love that makes the world a better place.

There have been individuals since the beginning of man that have taken action based on simply what they were born with, love.  It is the humble and those who look within themselves that act for the greater good. It is the selfish and those who seek power that are detrimental to the world.
INDIVIDUALS that took action to create POSITIVE CHANGE :

1. Buddha (around 400 BCE) - Guatama Buddha was a spiritual teacher that has influenced many for thousands of years. The teachings of Buddhism today are founded on this mans teachings from around 400 BCE. This man spoke of love, noble truths and the power of the mind.

“However many holy words you read, however many you speak, what good will they do you if you do not act on upon them?”
 - Guatama Buddha

2.  Albert Einstein (1879-1955) - A theoretical physicist, the brains and revolution of many things I barely understand. This man also spoke out against nuclear weapons and campaigned for a more peaceful world.

"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction."   - Albert Einstein

3. Mother Teresa (1910-1977) - Dedicated her life to serving the poor, sick, orphaned and dying. Mother Teresa was comfortable doing the learned uncomfortable.

“Live simply so others may simply live.” - Mother Teresa

4. Nelson Mandela (1918-present) - A South African politician who became president (1994-1999) and began to take action against poverty and inequality. Nelson was imprisoned for 27 years after being convicted of sabotage. Nelson Mandela is currently 94 years old, has received over 250 awards as well as a Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” - Nelson Mandela

There are so many other individuals who have benefited the world by acting with great courage. Just to list a few others: Jesus Christ, Abraham Lincoln, Princess Diana, Muhammad Ali and Jane Goodall.

All of these INDIVIDUALS have combined their courage with taking action and as a result MILLIONS have been 'saved' and inspired

It is important to remember that you do not need to be the next Mother Teresa to make a difference. Positive change stems from every small act of love and kindness. All those who have inspired thousands started by touching the heart of just one person. Be a role model, inspire and educate others.

Change happens only when ACTION is taken.

Change happens only when COURAGE is present.
